Demand side Energy Landscape Mapping of Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral
Team PT surveyed GBC’s MHPs, stressing the need for improved energy access. Collaboration with AKRSP and communities, along with a holistic growth approach, is crucial. This enhances payment capacity and addresses tourism and environmental concerns. Partnering with local telecom providers can further boost service delivery.
This field visit was conducted in August 2018—where Team PT explored different MHPs in GBC. Some of the learnings from the field visit were that a) Improving energy access is the need of the hour—despite apparent fluctuation and localized recession in demand. b) Communities and AKRSP cannot do this alone. c) Improving the households’ ability to pay requires an area/village growth approach d) Improved energy access will play a key role in managing tourism and related environmental degradation while ensuring the households’ capacity to pay—the first commerce! e) Linking utilities with local telecommunications providers is another solid commercial proposition d) Aggregated operation and management and improvement of the utilities will enable AKRSP to improve its services to the communities.
