Developing a White Paper on Transport Transition in Pakistan for The World Bank
The first ever modelling exercise for the transport sector assessing potential pathways done to accelerate the decarbonization of transport. These pathways scenarios were projected up until.
This study modelled Pakistan’s transport sector transition, using three pathways for decarbonization: Decarbonizing Passenger Transport; Decarbonizing Freight Transport; and Enabling Zero emission vehicle technologies. The study was performed to have an overview of Pakistan’s existing efforts for transport sector transition, estimating the impacts of steps taken, identifying, and assessing the potential pathways to accelerate decarbonization of transport. The estimations were in the form of projections made up to the year of 2050 and incorporated Pakistan’s socioeconomic profile that influences interventions, existing landscape, and future implications for transport sector decarbonization efforts. The study produced these estimations using modelling techniques for development scenarios where the models captured sectoral disaggregation.
