Research on Consumer and Trade Preferences for Pakistani Products in Afghanistan

A trade-oriented study focused on Pak-Afghan trade investigating competitiveness of products, current potential exports and imports, consumer perspectives of Pakistan’s position as trade partner in Afghanistan.

This study evaluates factors influencing Pakistan’s share in Afghanistan’s imports, importers’ preferences and Pakistan’s competitiveness in comparison to other nations, as well as examining final consumers’ preferences and the impact of import/export processes, rules, and regulations on Pakistan’s competitiveness as an import source.
The study identifies policy, procedural, and perceptual elements crucial for enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistani products in Afghanistan.
Recommendations for both the government and the private sector in Pakistan include

  • Increasing market share in Afghanistan’s imports.
  • Tracking Afghanistan’s imports, mapping current and potential exports from Pakistan to Afghanistan, determining sources of goods and services in Afghanistan
  • Understanding decision-making processes.
