Research on Non – Tariff Measures (NTMs) in Pakistan – Afghanistan Bilateral trade
A study with aim to enhance competition of Pakistan – Afghanistan products for bilateral trade including analysis on laws, regulation, trade costs and non-tariff measures in both countries.
Study focused on
- Classifying of Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs) in Pakistan and Afghanistan, specifically concerning bilateral trade between these two nations.
- Mapping NTM data and assessing the implementation of related instruments in both countries.
- Evaluating the impact of the top 10 NTMs on trade, encompassing potential tradeless and providing insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by the private sector in compliance with these NTMs.
- Comparative analysis of trade costs associated with NTMs and tariffs across various sectors, such as agriculture, non-agricultural products, and the services sector, within Pakistan and Afghanistan.
- Identifying relevant laws, regulations, and trade policies in both nations
- Assessing how NTMs were addressed in previous and existing trade policies. The goal was to provide policy recommendations that would foster a conducive environment for enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistani products in Afghanistan and Afghan products in Pakistan.
In executing these tasks, REE conducted desk research, stakeholder engagement, data collection, analysis, reporting, and the presentation of results at relevant forums. REEsefforts culminated in the creation of a final report intended for public dissemination, contributing to a better understanding of the dynamics of NTMs in the context of Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral trade
