The Gender Analysis Study
The BRAVE-CRHR project studied gender issues in five disaster-prone districts in Pakistan. It found that women, minorities, and transgender people face major barriers in accessing services and protection, especially during disasters. Key needs include disaster-resistant housing, clean water, healthcare, mental health support, and better community organization. Young men and women want to diversify livelihoods beyond farming through skills and entrepreneurship, but cultural limits hold back women’s economic progress.
The study also revealed weaknesses in public services due to staff shortages and poor gender sensitivity. Politically, women and marginalized groups are mostly excluded from decision-making. A gender-responsive, multi-sector approach is needed to improve early warning, recovery, and long-term adaptation to disasters. Strengthening access to resources, infrastructure, and political inclusion will help build stronger, fairer communities.
