Pakistan Green Transition Fund

Challenge

Pakistan needs climate-aligned investment to support its nationally determined contributions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and attract public and private capital for climate-friendly initiatives. There is also a need to drive innovation and foster growth in the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector while addressing climate change challenges through practical, investment-ready opportunities.

Approach

Reenergia Impact, in partnership with Climate Change Ventures, supported the development of the Pakistan Green Transition Fund as a dedicated green investment vehicle with a proposed budget of USD 100 million and a launch timeline of 2023-24. The fund focused on attracting public and private investment into shovel-ready projects, including renewable energy, methane capture, and transitions in transport and energy sectors.

Outcome

The initiative established the basis for a dedicated green transition fund focused on climate-friendly projects in Pakistan. It positioned renewable energy, methane capture, transport transition, and energy-sector transformation as investment areas capable of supporting Pakistan’s nationally determined contributions, reducing emissions, driving MSME innovation, and contributing to green economic growth.
